Not so much a new design but more of a  major tidy up  and replacement of old worn out parts. The owner of this wild back garden in E8 finally realised the garden had got the better of him and  opted for  a new Astro turf lawn. Far less maintenance!

IMG_1058.JPG

AFTER

There were some lovely plants and features to this garden once we got our sleeves rolled up and stuck in to the  undergrowth. What with a  major pruning back and the installation of some high quality, low maintenance Astro turf this garden has had a fabulous face lift. Job done!

We get it. We really do. Not everyone is born with green thumbs like us and so any kind of outdoor space that needs maintenance can be an absolute chore.

Better to create an outdoor space you can actually use and enjoy as another room. You still get to connect with the great outdoors but with little to no effort.

AFTER

We got rid of all the old turf and weeds, laid the timber base and  installed this  gorgeous composite decking from Neo Timber. Composite decking may be a bit more expensive than traditional wooden timber but its made from 70% recycled plastic and wood and  is pretty indestructible. Usually wooden decking only has a shelf life of 10 years before it starts rotting but with composite you are looking at 25yrs +

Not going to lie. This wasn't really a traditional garden makeover but I thought I'd add this to our library because it was definitely done in a garden and was a makeover of sorts so there you go...

IMG_1142_edited.jpg

AFTER

We just coudln't resist the challenge to out together this  all bells and whistles playhouse. The frame was created just the same way a decking frame would be so with ll the usual tools and experience the solid foundations were sorted. Then the fun bit...putting together a flat pack of more than 20 pages. Phew!

Still, we did it, and are rather proud of the fabulous end results. Two very happy little customers

BEFORE

This uninspiring, dreary back garden was a grey blob of concrete. Not exactly a place you would want to rush home to and  escape the city bustle. And that's exactly what was asked for. To create a little slice of urban calm.  A  place to unwind with a few good friends and glass of vino while pottering amongst the herbs and roses.

IMG_0490.JPG

AFTER

The fence was raised to create more privacy, a soft light green accent colour added for extra calm. The bin storage was tiled and turned into a  BBQ / potted herb table and a mix of paving and decking was created to form a smart entertaining space  surrounded by bee friendly flower beds of gentle whites, blues and yellows. An absolute Oasis!

In an ideal world pets and small children should  be right at home in a  patchy, unkempt lawn but  with our modern, busy lives, mopping up muddy paw prints and  bike tyre trails over a plush rug and  hard wood flooring is not much fun. This garden needed some serious zero maitenance solutions  so sleek decking and  realistic, super soft astro turf were the answer.

IMG_0486.JPG

AFTER

THe clients were delighted with the outcome and could let out a sigh of relief knowing that said pets and kids could tear around the garden without causing too much mess.

What was initially and uninspiring 80's garden turned out to be a  beautiful up to date  example of a  practical outdoor space.

Another neglected green space in E3 that was ready for a makeover. This time  we included some  gorgeous anthracite grey raised beds, composite decking to match the colour, paited the fences and  replaced the old rotten railway sleeper steps with a new one.

AFTER

Its amazing what can be achieved with a few choice, good quality materials and these raised beds from Harrod Horticultural were just the ticket. They really gave the garden that modern sleek look the clients were going for .

By also enhancing the beautiful silver birch in the corner by underplanting with lush green foliage and  ferns really made its natural beauty stand out. The  composite style decking was a huge improvement too the space too.

They almost didn't want us to show you this picture  of their DIY fail but there is no shame in admitting that creating a garden is way harder than it looks and we were more than happy to come to the rescue on this project.

AFTER

The spec was for a modern, sleek garden. Low maitenance  and practical but with some tropical, sexy vibes that  a young urban couple would be proud of  when inviting friends and family over for a BBQ.

It just had to be  a colour combo of black and hot  pink. A sun terrace was placed in the sunniest spot and some raised beds erected from  rendered breeze blocks around  each boundary. What a transformation .

The lovely couple who own this  precious patch in E3  were itching to get their gardening skills exercised but needed some inspiration on landscaping and planting  from us. and we were delighted to help.

AFTER

A circular sun terrace was installed in the  top left while a more wildlife friendly grass and gravel area was planted in the top right. I stunning bird bath gave this area a lovely feature while the  lawn and plant borders to the sides were kept simple but full of gorgeous perennials for year round colour and interest. Trellis was added to the brick walls to support some mature rose bushes and a stunning wooden bench with integrated planter were installed nearer the house.

Garden Makeover in E14

BEFORE

This garden in E14 needed a total re design, with a brieft for it to be low maintenance, simple but elegant and a joy to look at, ( without having to rush out and trim the grass and shrubs every 5 minutes!)

The garden was on quite a slope so it made sense to section the whole space in to 3 defined parts

AFTER

WE achieved the final look with terracing the garden by building retaining brick walls that matched the house. We took down some very large overgrow shrubs to make more space, added some beautiful curved fence panels, paved the top and bottom sections of the garden and added some astro turf for all year round greenery.

BEFORE

The spec for this garden was very straight forward. The property was going to be rented out and the garden had to be smart but extremely low maintenance. Nothing beats a bit of Astro Turf when it comes to low maintenance.

AFTER

The success of long lasting astro turf is all about the preparation. We dug out all the old turf and soil to about 6 inches then filled it back in with grit and sand for drainage and stability.

The results are a solid base and beautifully laid artificial grass which needs very little to no  maintenance. Year round greenery guaranteed!

BEFORE

Our initial visit to this garden was to see how we could help with an old tired lawn but it was clear that trying to grow a lush lawn in the  very shaded and dry back half of the  garden wasn't goimg to happen.

AFTER

Over the course of 3 different visits we reclaimed the dry shaded area with a fabulous new decking and BBQ space, re did the garden borders and then laid a brand new lawn in the rest of the garden where light and space would allow it to grow lush and green.

BEFORE

The inspiration behind this garden was the clients love of Frida Kahlo and her use of vibrant tropical colours and clashing flower combos. It also neede to be wheelchair friendly so grass was replaced with paving and beds were raised for easy and confortable access.

AFTER

We absolutely loved being able to work with such a tropical colour pallet as most people arent that brave but doing this project in the heat of summer helped us get in the mood for hot pinks, vibrant blues and lots of tropical plants and palms.

Sizzling!

Garden Makeover in E8

BEFORE

This poor old garden had been suffocated under 6 months worth of brick dust from an extension so the brief was to revive it with masses of colour, some imaginative elements, new flower borders and a proper lawn

AFTER

With a healthy budget and a lot of hard work Project Green Thumb were able to turn this space into a gorgeous oasis. We created a sun terrace and raised garden bed at the back, a lovely seating area,  new flower borders, new trellis and a luscious new lawn. All ready for a Summer garden party

Garden Project in E9

BEFORE

This garden has a beautiful array of loving planted flowers and shrubs but the paths and borders around had never really been done properly. It was decided that the flower beds be made a little smaller and the new paved areas be made wider for better access all round.

AFTER

The owners chose a lovely slate paving called 'Old Black Classic' in slightly different shades and sizes to give colour and interest to the design. A simple wooden edging border was added to keep the soil in place and we added a gorgeous edging border to the back of the garden with some old granite sets left over from previous building work.

Luscious Lawn in E8

BEFORE

The foxes and weeds had been having a party in this neglected lawn and it had got to the stage where it was beyond repair. Two days of digging up the old and replacing with luscious new turf was just the answer. And look at the results. Such a transformation.

AFTER

All that needs to be done now is to keep on top of it all. Feed once a month, cut carefully once the grass has rooted and at the first sign of a weed, pull it out by the roots. Forget the old saying, 'the grass is greener on the other side'. The truth is, 'the grass is greener where you water it'.

Garden Makeover in E14

BEFORE

A good 10 years of battling with the elements had left this garden in E14 looking tired and neglected. The brief was to transform it  into a calming, sophisticated oasis with a grey, purple and white colour pallet.

AFTER

With all this in mind we chose a lovely combination of small shrubs and perennial plants to give colour all year round. A new real turf lawn was laid, the fence painted in slate greyand all paving slabs jet washed. Transformed!

Testimonial -

Asking PGT to do my garden was the best decision I've made. From start to finish they were a delight to work with. They helped me pick the right plants and did an amazing job of transforming it. I'm so pleased with the results.    ~ Rowan ~

Garden Makeover in E3

BEFORE

This small back yard needed some serious plant and colour injection but we had to keep in mind it needed to be very low maintenance

AFTER

A 'Winters Night' cuprinol colour was chosen here and all sheds and fences were painted to really lift the space. We also took up some selected paving and created some beautiful plant combo's of herbs and grasses

Decking Design in E14

BEFORE

This old decking design no longer filled its purpose with this growing family so the spec was to upgrade it with new composite decking  and a bigger space for more adequate outdoor living.

AFTER

And here is the finished design. Twice the size, spanning the whole width of the garden with a generous space for tables, chairs, gazebo's, BBQ's, pot plants, etc. Overall a fabulous new look.

Testimonial -

Our existing decking was tired and small. Project Green Thumb were able to adapt the existing base and extend out to double its size. We are so happy with the new outcome and the kids love it! Looking forward to working with PGT again soon.   ~ Nilam E14 ~

Garden Makeover in E8

BEFORE

The owners of this  front garden asked for a much smarter look from the original. We trimmed the hedges, weeded, put in a flower border and replaced the gravel.

AFTER

What a difference! We loved the shade of this 'Cotswold' gravel too which really brightened and smartened the whole front garden.

We are really thrilled with the new front garden. What a difference. It looks great! Thanks to both of you for your hard work    ~ Stuart and Alex , E8 ~

Garden Makeover in E6

BEFORE

This neglected garden was crying out for some TLC and a new style. The plan was to re lay the path, add a lawn and create some defined flower beds for growing herbs, shrubs and perennials

AFTER

All the weeds and rubbish gone and the ground levelled we moved the path over to the left, creating a much better space for a lovely green lawn and some good size flower borders.

Thanks so much for your hard work and easy plans that fit around my budget. Great Job!    Patrick ~

Garden Makeover in E12

BEFORE

This garden was left to its own devices for more than 10 years and, no joke, nature had completely taken over. The brief was to completely clear the space and keep it extremely low maintenance for tenants.

AFTER

5 days and 60 + bags of rubbish later this waste land was transformed. We left a few choice plants, a beautiful rose which got to drape itself over a new arch and gravelled the rest of the space. Not a bramble in sight!

Another SOS call to tackle the back yard jungle monster. This request was for a simple, manageable, easy to maintain garden with a bit of character.

AFTER

And here is the finished project. Smarter, clearer brighter, much more manageable and an absolute delight to sit in after all the clearing and redesigning was done.

BEFORE

This tired old shed and broken fence was a total eye sore. The budget here was very small but with a bit of imagination and resourcefulness we did the space proud

AFTER

We came back and took this picture just a month later. What a difference. No longer a dreary, broken space its now bright, colourful, characterful and a pleasure to sit in.

I couldn't be happier with  this outcome. I really didn't have much of a budget, or any imagination but Muzzy and Alison knew exactly how to turn this space into something worth looking at rather than an ugly eye sore.
